Nancy M. Targett

Nancy M. Targett assumed the role of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs on September 1, 2016. Targett was previously at the University of Delaware where she was a member of the University of Delaware faculty since 1984, Dean of the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment and Director of the Delaware Sea Grant College Program from 2005-2015, and Acting President from 2015-2016.
A nationally recognized expert on ocean issues, Targett is immediate past chair of the Board of Trustees of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership and immediate past treasurer of the Sea Grant Association, a national network of 32 Sea Grant College Programs. She has served on the Ocean Studies Board at the National Academy of Sciences and the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council. She was selected as an Aldo Leopold Leadership Fellow.
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Targett earned her master’s degree in marine science at the University of Miami and her doctorate in oceanography at the University of Maine, with a specialization in marine chemical ecology.
